Toilet-Units

MOV Herveld always takes the position of women into account when choosing projects. You can also read this in the information about the four hostels we built for girls.

Evaluation interviews in Tanzania showed that many girls are regularly absent from secondary education. The reason is that there is no place for the girls when they have their period. There are no facilities for changing and washing. As a result, many girls stay at home during this period and thus miss about 25% of their school time!

That is why the MOV, together with a Herveld company, is busy building 15 toilet units. In a period of 5 years, these facilities will be built at 15 schools for girls to use: a toilet with washing facilities and changing room. Everything separated from the normal toilets.

This project will probably not make the newspapers in the Netherlands. It is not an inventive and eye-catching project, but it is very much needed. It gives girls the opportunity to get more out of their education.
